Early morning I dream of you disheveled pale ill-tempered so very beautiful

at the bottom of our small garden taking care of the roses...

our roses with small droplets of dew rolling... exquisite!

Dick, our dog, is beside you wagging his tail furiously while digging the hollow ground still wet.

A small blue bird on the branch of the lemon tree is carefully watching your movements

instead of singing with all its heart.

Your robe opens slightly showing your legs so white remembering the night before…

Your thin hands work the roses as a ballet...

I dream myself away tenderly, looking at you through the window with a big grin on my face…

You annoy me so much!

Our litle boy - his face just over my lap - is trying to pick my nose and then start laughing and laughing again…

The smell of fresh baked bread and coffee is in the air...

Stop thinking and end your problems.
Putting art into everything
with no need to improve,
Or reach an end that’s enlightening
A true runner runs endlessly
Just as when nomads travel, their at their true destiny
I see poetry in everything,
beauty or despair, both as interesting.
Even when I clean, dirt becomes my muse,
and makes what I’m doing have an artistic quality.
Instead of a mindless thing,
it becomes an end result that is fulfilling.

Cold Coffee
Cold coffee and my bed’s not made, suitcase open with stickers on each spot from places where I’ve stayed. The sun is up but I can’t see where, it’s cloudy outside and there’s a chill in the air. Sitting in a big soft front room chair, want for my mind to take me somewhere, really I’m already there.
But how does that help anyone anywhere. Getting to be an out going recluse. My writing is a drug I need to use. Without any questions the answers the same, and now outside its starting to rain.

LOVE
My love doesn’t need to be a star, a ten or send me to the moon or shoot me to mars.
My love doesn’t need to understand hidden secrets, prove myself or be a spiritual witness.
My love doesn’t need, and is delightfully unencumbered and free.
My love doesn’t flow like a river or stream, but it floods as a dam that’s given way with its force of extreme.
My love doesn’t push away, doesn’t control or only do as I say, my love is gentle but as rich as a rose and so truthful when my naked soul is exposed.

CAN’T THINK
My pen is out of ink, my mind is empty, I just can’t think.
My pencil tips keep breaking off. I start a story then get lost, my mind’s disappearing in a heavy fog. I need a muse, or some spark to ignite, get something going some how tonight, a love poem, a or a funny quip, but I need some fuel to start it
I’ll try later and if lucky might find something that will strike the right tone, something that feels good and at last brings it home.

Zen is the thought before you think,

The center of silence focuses on a infinite meaning,
changing a crazy monkey into a mindful human being.

Gone deaf to the truth, too many lies and confusion are feeding my roots. Politics with shallow intellectual concepts, with hate and jokers on the right and left. Both have lost common sense, where are the heroes that can stop this insane show? A way to mend, take away the crazy and our distain, realize we only live a short time on earth, where it can be a heaven or hell. The Dharma should awaken our minds and our words to make this a blessed and a more peaceful time.

Did you see the sun rise today,
the crest of life in its immaculate golden rays.
Did you take time to stop and take a breath,
then realize what you did and put this into your steps.
Did you help feed the birds in the cold of winters freeze,
the virtue that you will have returned in the songs that they sing.
Did you love yourself today and share in respect all you came in touch with, even when it was harder than you expected.
Take the time to look for understanding and peace in all you do,
for a pebble in a small pond can change that world, and know we can to.

Didier Mignon

Didier Mignon est un ancien photojournaliste, installé aujourd’hui à Saint Malo. Son regard serait-il celui d’un "parisien" sur la Bretagne...?
Il affectionne souvent les transparences et les reflets avec lesquels il réalise des sortes de collages instantanés, pris sur le vif, dans une réalité recomposée (Le bus arrive; Triumph*). Il aime jouer avec les silhouettes, qui se présentent comme des papiers découpés ou des ombres de Chine, comme dans (La pie, Triangle ou Partitions*). Par cette approche suggestive du monde, il laisse une grande place à l’imagination, notamment par les principes des voiles ou encore des fragments, selon la figure stylistique de la partie pour le tout. Quand il choisit la couleur, il aime les nuances très fines et douces ou, au contraire, les tonalités éclatantes et contemporaines. Il pose un regard très tendre sur le monde, qu’il soit celui des hommes au travail, des vieux ou des enfants, des marins ou des passants croisés au hasard de ses errances, dans les rues, dans les transports, ou au café. Oscillant entre le réalisme poétique, dans la tradition de la photographie Humaniste, pour des titres comme (Petit bolide ou Peau d’âne*), il aime aussi la sophistication et le graphisme avec des images très construites, avec des symétries et des contrastes forts en noir et blanc ou en couleur, comme dans (Le môle des noires, Par la fenêtre de la salle d’attente, Vestiges, La mode*)... He has a gentle look on the world, whether it is: men working, elderly or children, sailors or walkers met by chance in their wanderings in the streets, in public transports, or at the pub. Oscillating between the poetic realism in the tradition of humanist photography, in titles like (Petit bolide or Peau d’âne*), he also likes the sophistication and the design with highly constructed images, with symmetries and strong contrasts in black and white or in colour, as in (Le môle des noires, Par la fenêtre de la salle d’attente, Vestiges, La mode *)... Créateur de ‘TORORO’ le taureau bien connu des Nîmois, qui s'expose depuis plusieurs saisons.
Créateur, rédacteur en chef du journal gratuit humoristique ‘BAFFES’,
Dessinateur de BD, de dessins de presse, entre autres,
Auteur d'un album de dessins de presse ‘UN TORO SINON RIEN’ aux Editions Lacour.

Nombreuses expositions passées et à venir:
‘TORORO dans Les Vendanges de l'humour’, ‘TORORO voit rose’, ‘TORORO prend de la brioche’, ‘TOREROS D'HUMOUR’..

Michel Monteils - born in 1955 Nov 27th – has always been attracted to drawing. At the tender age of six, he started drawing comics to entertain the whole family.
He studied at The Beaux-Arts (Nîmes) for a short period as he was eager to join Jean IMAGE school to improve the movement in drawing.
He wrote for different local newspapers providing humoristic sketches and started publishing his comics, professionally, in the late 70s. He then created a monthly free humoristic local magazine: ‘BAFFES’.
In 2008 he decided to start exhibiting his works after he has been asked by a few Art galleries, restaurants, and atypical places.
This work, published here now, ‘mise à nu’ has just been on exhibition in L’Imprimerie at Nîmes.
Carlos Paes

José Carlos Paes Neves e Sousa nasceu em Ovar, em 1949.
Estudou em Portugal e Angola onde viveu até 1975. A assídua frequência do atelier de seu pai, o pintor Neves e Sousa e o contacto com outros artistas, baseou a sua formação artística.
Participou no curso de História da Arte Moderna e Contemporânea, orientado pelo professor Fernando Pernes (assessor cultural da Fundação Serralves).
Desde muito jovem viu vários dos seus trabalhos serem reconhecidos e premiados.
Entre 1970 e 1989 fez escultura a par da pintura e desenho. Expõe com regularidade a partir de 1990, em Portugal e também em Espanha, Angola e Brasil. Esteve representado na “Malta International Art Bienal”.
Em 1997 e 1998 colaborou em cenografia para teatro.
Está representado em acervos oficiais e particulares em diversos países. Reside actualmente em Aveiro, onde desenvolve a sua actividade.

Jose Carlos Paes Neves e Sousa was born in Ovar, in 1949.

Quando era jovem estudante em Lausanne (Suiça) comprei a minha primeira máquina fotográfica, com as poupanças do trabalho que fazia nas férias lectivas: uma Nikormat EL. Como já então não gostava de retratar a realidade, mas de a interpretar, comprei também um pequeno laboratório (a preto e branco) com o qual revelava os rolos e passava as fotos para o papel. Como vivia num T0, o único local onde o laboratório podia estar era na casa de banho (porque não tinha luz natural). Muitas vezes passei a noite toda naquela casa de banho, sem me dar conta das horas.
Mais tarde, devido a uma vida profissional demasiado exigente, ofereci a máquina ao meu irmão, que, muito mais tarde, a ofereceu à minha filha mais velha.
Passaram mais de 30 anos sem tirar uma única fotografia, até decidir comprar uma dessas máquinas de bolso para registar os momentos vividos aquando de viagens.
Todavia, há certas coisas na vida que nos perseguem, nos encontram, ou reencontram e às quais não podemos fugir, mesmo que quiséssemos. Em Setembro de 2009 foi-me diagnosticado um cancro da parótida. Seguiram-se duas intervenções cirúrgicas quase seguidas, que me deixaram a cara num bolo e me impediram de trabalhar. A minha família, para eu não me isolar tanto, lembrou-se de me oferecer uma Nikon D3000, digital, pelo Natal de 2009, pensando, de tanto me amarem, que era um pretexto para me reencontrar com a vida.
Tinham toda a razão. Aquela paixão adormecida voltou, tão forte ou mais do que antes e dei por mim a ir aqui e ali, às vezes muito longe, outras vezes muito perto, só com o pretexto de tirar fotografias. Só que desta vez só me interessava o que o nosso mundo tem de belo, de sublime, o milagre da vida em todas as suas formas.
Tudo o que procuro e consigo fotografar é, só por si, um hino à vida e à beleza da nossa condição humana, à majestosa exuberância do nosso planeta e dos seus habitantes.
Assim, posso dizer, sem medo de errar, que a fotografia me salvou a sanidade mental, me manteve conectado com o mundo e me levou onde não tinha sido capaz de ir pelos meus próprios pés.
Agradeço, comovido, a todos os que gostam das imagens que divulgo, mas agradeço ainda mais à beleza do mundo que nos cerca, em relação ao qual andamos tantas vezes distraídos.
Por último agradeço à QUO Magazine a oportunidade de mostrar o que vejo a um público mais alargado. Agradeço e aceito todas as sugestões e feed-back que queiram enviar-me.

When I was a young student in Lausanne (Switzerland) I bought my first camera, with the savings from my work during school holidays: a Nikormat EL. As I, already by then, did not like to portray the reality but would rather interpret it, I also bought a small lab (black and white) in which I developed the film and passed the photos to the paper. As I lived in a T0, the only place for the lab was in the bathroom (because there was no natural light in there). I would spend nights in a row in that bathroom, without realizing the time.
Later, due to an extremely demanding professional life, I offered the camera to my brother, who, much later, offered it to my eldest daughter.
More than 30 years passed by without taking a single photo, till I decide to buy one of those pocket cameras to register the experienced moments during my traveling.
However, there are certain things in life that pursue us, find us, or rediscover us, and to which we cannot escape, even if we would like to. In September 2009 I was diagnosed with parotid cancer, and two surgeries followed, one upon the other, which left my face as a cake and prevented me from working. My family, in order to prevent my isolation, thought to offer me a Nikon D3000 digital at Christmas 2009. Thinking, from loving me so much, that this would be an excuse for me to reconnect with life.
And quite right they where! That dormant passion was rekindled as strong as ever and I found myself going to places, sometimes far, sometimes very close, using the pretext of going to take photos. Only this time, all I was interested in was the beauty of our world, the sublime, the miracle of life in all its forms.
All what I searched and succed to photograph is, in itself, a hymn to life and to the beauty of our human condition, to the majestic exuberance of our planet and its inhabitants.
So I can say, without fear of contradiction, that photography saved my sanity, kept me connected with the world and took me where I had not been able to go before by my own legs.
I’m very grateful to all of you who enjoy the photos I spread around. I thank you affectedly. But I’m even more grateful to the beauty of the world around us, this world of ours where we walk in often so distracted.
Finally I thank QUO Magazine the opportunity to show what I see to a wider public.
I appreciate and accept all suggestions and feedback you might have on my work.
